Opinion Columnist and Critic

I'm Gianna Kelley! I graduated from Missouri State University in 2022 with a journalism degree and a minor in film studies.

 

I participated in MSU's newspaper The Standard for two and a half years as an opinion columnist and critic. Thanks to the editors' gracious freedom, I gained experience writing reviews, opinion columns, features and news – and I was a copy editor for the "Springfield news" section my senior year.

I have professional experience from the Springfield Daily Citizen, an independent public affairs newsroom that focuses on in-depth and community news. I interned with the team for four months and produced local arts and culture feature stories and an in-depth enterprise on the state of renting in Springfield. 

​

I've been trained in several news verticals – broadcast, written and multimedia. I've learned so much about broadcast journalism and producing through MSU's Ozarks News Brief.

I'm currently a news producer at KOLR10, Springfield's local news station. I write, edit video and organize stories for the 10 p.m. broadcast. I have so much fun working with directors, reporters and anchors to ensure the content's production is adequately executed and distributed on time. 

​

Film is my passion and writing is my form of expression. I love to write in-depth stories, especially about pop culture – but most of all, I love writing film reviews. My favorite genres are psychological thriller and horror but I'll never say "no" to a raunchy comedy. I'm obsessed with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Jim Carrey is my all-time favorite actor.  My aspirations are to become a film critic and opinion writer but my love for journalism can take me anywhere!
